Las Vegas Man Pleads Guilty in NH Firearms Purchase

Federal prosecutors said the Nevada man claimed he was a resident, and he purchased the guns for a third party.

U.S. Attorney John P. Kacavas announced June 17 that a Las Vegas man has pleaded guilty to one count of providing false statements in connection with the purchase of eight firearms from a New Hampshire dealer.

David Reiter, 57, purchased the firearms in 2006 and claimed on forms that he was a New Hampshire resident and the actual buyer of the guns, according to the U.S. Attorney.

The authorities found out he was neither, and that he purchased the firearms for a third party.

"Ensuring that persons who violate the prohibition against possessing firearms are brought to justice is a central mission of my office," Kacavas said in a press release. "We will continue to work closely with our state and federal partners to enforce federal gun laws."

Reiter faces a statutory maximum sentence of ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine and is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 22.
