NH CrossFit Gym Ordered To Close; Owner Charged

CrossFit Affirmation in Newton, New Hampshire, was ordered to close after multiple violations, officials said.

NEWTON, NH — A New Hampshire CrossFit gym was ordered to close after its owner committed multiple consumer protection violations, officials announced Thursday. Thomas Lavinge owns CrossFit Affirmation in Newton. He was fined $45,000 after soliciting memberships for more than one year and failed to provide members with contracts with buyer's rights listed, according to New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon MacDonald.

Lavigne also failed to register his gym with the state and failed to "disclose his membership liability for purposes of bonding to protect prepaid membership dues."

MacDonald said Lavigne ignored a court order last month to close the gym and address the violations, so he was subsequently charged with a misdemeanor. He will be arraigned Monday in Rockingham County Superior Court.
