NH Schools Should Start After Labor Day, Governor Says

NH Governor Chris Sununu said moving the start of school to after Labor Day would benefit children, tourism and the agriculture industry.

SALEM, NH — Moving the start of New Hampshire schools to after Labor Day would allow children to enjoy the most out of their summers while boosting the state's tourism and agriculture industries, according to Governor Chris Sununu. The governor visited amusement park Canobie Lake park in Salem Tuesday to announce the creation of a commission to examine school start times.

Many New Hampshire school districts started school this week, including Concord and Nashua.

"The decision to start school before Labor Day can have adverse impacts on New Hampshire's tourism and agricultural industry, and is becoming all too frequent," Sununu said in a statement. "I think it's time to change that. Let's save our summers."
