Old Salem Toys 'R' Us To Become Ocean State Job Lot

Toys "R" Us closed several New Hampshire stores, including its Salem location, when it filed for bankruptcy.

SALEM, NH — There will be new life for old Salem Toys "R" Us building on Veterans Memorial Parkway. Ocean State Job Lot on Tuesday announced plans to move into the space formerly occupied by the bankrupt toy retailer. The Rhode Island-based discount retailer said it acquired seven former Toys "R" Us locations in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and New York.

"In an ever-changing retail environment where many retailers are struggling, Ocean State Job Lot has been able to adapt, enter new markets, re-open closed storefronts, and create new job opportunities," Ocean State Job Lot CEO Marc Perlman said in a statement. "We realize that people work hard for their money, and those retailers who are able to provide exceptional value will be rewarded by their customers."

The Salem location was the only New Hampshire location included the purchases. Ocean State Job State currently operates 133 stores across New England.

"The Toys 'R' Us locations make sense for us," Perlman continued. "They are expansive, with an average footprint of 40,000 square feet, and will allow us to offer our customers a fantastic overall shopping experience."
