Planet Fitness Returning To Salem

SALEM, NH — Planet Fitness is returning to Salem. The gym chain said it will open its newest location at the Rockingham Mall Plaza on Cluff Crossing Road by late February. The 24,000-square-foot space was formerly occupied by Bob's Discount Furniture, which recently moved into the old Shaw's building next door.

Planet Fitness operated a location on North Broadway that closed several years ago. The new gym will be operated by franchisee Taylor Mandell.

"We’re confident that our encouraging and hassle-free environment will be a welcome local addition and we look forward to being a part of the Salem community," Mandell said in a statement. "Whether you’ve never belonged to a gym before or you’re an existing gym member looking to try a new facility, we encourage you to come check out the Salem club."

The gym will be open seven days a week, 24 hours a day. It will house 110 pieces of cardio equipment, free wireless internet and 28 televisions, tanning booths and massage chairs, among other amenities.

Headquartered in Hampton, Planet Fitness operates about 1,600 gyms in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Panama.
