Salem Bar Fight Could Get Man 5 Years in Jail

A Methuen, Mass., man who struck a police officer in the head to allegedly avoid an arrest following a fight at a local restaurant could soon face trial on a variety of charges.

Jared Alfred Wolf, of 97A Druid Hill Ave., was recently indicted in connection a Sept 14. fight at Jocelyn's on South Broadway.

Among the four charges on which Wolf was indicted is a felony count of extended term of imprisonment simple assault, which carries a possible sentence of two to five years behind bars. Wolf allegedly struck Salem Police Officer Brian Routhier in the head as Routhier tried to arrest Wolf, according to the indictment.

Wolf was also indicted on two misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest or detention and a violation-level disorderly conduct charge. These indictments allege that Wolf was involved in "fighting or violent, tumultuous or threatening behavior" at the bar before he attempted to flee the area after striking Routhier in the head.

Wolf also allegedly refused to come out of a wooded area in which he was hiding, and he later allegedly attempted to shake another officer's grasp when he was finally apprehended.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt or conviction; rather, it means a grand jury believed there was sufficient evidence to warrant a trial.
