Salem NH Man Honored By Boston Celtics, Mass. State Lottery
Steve Picardi has been helping to raise millions of dollars to help children with Neurofibromatosis for more than a dozen years.
SALEM, NH — A New Hampshire man was honored last month for his charitable efforts raising millions of dollars for children with Neurofibromatosis.
The Boston Celtics and the Mass. State Lottery honored Steve Picardi as part of the Heroes Among Us program for working with Tommy Heinsohn, the legendary Boston Celtics player, coach, and commentator, who died in 2020, to raise money for Neurofibromatosis Northeast. The org is dedicated to finding a cure for the neurological genetic condition found in young children, according to officials.
During the past 13 years, Picardi helped raise $3 million for scientific research and to send more than 200 children who live with Neurofibromatosis to Camp New Friends. The camp offers children and teens with neurofibromatosis seven days and six nights of summer fun and social connections.

The Heroes Among Us effort, established in 1997 by the Celtics, recognizes outstanding people who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities, according to the team. The award is presented at every Celtics home game and pays tribute to the heroic achievements of these outstanding citizens.
