Salem Police Honor Guard Showcased at Monarchs Game

Local officers helped kicked off a special night in the AHL — one that featured the return of a long-awaited hockey jersey.

The Salem Police Department Honor Guard joined members of the Manchester Monarchs hockey team on the ice Saturday night to present the colors during the pre-game national anthem.

Lt. Joel Dolan, Detective Mike Geha, Officer Justin Bagley, School Resource Officer Kevin Swanson, Officer Joshua York, Officer Mike Massahos, and Officer Brian Routhier stood at attention during the ceremony, which preceded an American Hockey League matchup between Manchester and the Portland Pirates.

The Monarchs paid tribute to their National Hockey League parent team, the Los Angeles Kings, on Saturday by wearing the Kings' infamous "Burger King" alternate jersey from the 1990s.

Fans were asked to select between three different Kings jersey styles for the Monarchs to wear instead of their usual sweaters for Los Angeles Kings Night, and the short-lived alternate known as the "Burger King" jersey — called that due to the cartoon king head on the left side of the chest of the jersey — won.
