SALEM, NH — Hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts and supporters will once again gather in Salem for the annual “Ride For A Cure” event to benefit those with neurofibromatosis (NF), a debilitating disease that often leads to tumors and other symptoms. The ninth annual K’s Ride and 5K Walk For A Cure is taking place Sunday, July 28. The event, which draws a big turnout each summer, is inspired by 12-year-old Keara Delaney, a former Salem resident who is battling the disease. Her family is partnering with Tuscan Brands to host the family-friendly race and walk.

The motorcycle ride will embark participants on a ride through New Hampshire's scenic roads. New this year, event organizers will offer a 5K walk as an alternative. The walk will take place at the Rail Trail.

Afterward, Salem's Tuscan Kitchen will host a reception at the Tuscan Piazza, with a pig roast, a bouncy house, raffles, DJ entertainment and more. The top prize of the raffle is a seven-day cruise to Bermuda for two people in 2020.

All proceeds will benefit families in need who are affected by NF. Funds will also go to NF-related nonprofits. NF is a disease that causes tumors, with effects ranging from learning disabilities to cancer.

Keara, who was born with NF, is a former Salem resident who now lives in Massachusetts. In the first 11 years of life, doctors detected 14 brain tumors, 12 cervical spine tumors, a sciatica tumor and a scattering of painful smaller lumps, according to event organizers. And her battle is continuing.
