Sex Offender, Task Force Fugitive From 2018 Arrested In Salem

Arthur F. Hackett Jr., a convicted sexual assaulter, has been wanted by the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force for 20 months.

SALEM, NH — A New Hampshire fugitive, missing for nearly two years, has been arrested by Salem police, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Arthur F. Hackett Jr., 55, a registered sex offender due to a previous aggravated felonious sexual assault charge, was featured as New Hampshire's Fugitive of the Week on Nov. 7, 2018. He was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failure to register as a sex offender. The warrant out of Manchester on duty to inform charges for change of name, alias, or address, and registration of sex offenders issued on May 9, 2018.

"(Hackett) was arrested in Salem by members of the Salem Police Department this past weekend," according to Brandon Wilson, a deputy marshal.

At the time of the task force alert, Hackett was thought to be living in Manchester, according to Foster's Daily Democrat. He was previously arrested on Shadow Lake Road in Salem in April 2016 on a failure to register charge. Hacketts was charged in Derry in November 2007 on a duty to report accusation and convicted on a sex offender registry; fail to comply, knowing-subsequent charge out of Salem in February 2017 from an incident in October 2015.

Hackett is due in Hillsborough County Superior Court North Oct. 14.
