SALEM, NH — The Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce has awarded scholarships to three Salem High School 2021 graduates.

Xiara Glickel, Alexis Widgen, and Amy Murphy all won scholarships based on academic achievement, community activity, and essays, according to Sue Desjardins, the vice president of the organization.

Glickel, the school's highest-scoring student, with high honors every semester, received the Ray Landry Memorial Scholarship. She was a member of the National Honor Society, student council, and treasurer of the key club. Glickel was also a founding member of the school's Women's Empowerment. Desjardins said she was also a nationally ranked indoor archer through the USA Archery JOAD Program, ranking in the top three in both state and regional competitions from 2017-2020 and Top 10 nationally in her class. Glickel will be attending Emerson College in the fall where she has been accepted into the honors program.

Murphy will attend the University of Tampa as a business major. When not playing field hockey or lacrosse, she works as an office assistant at Industrial Protection Products in Salem. Murphy had a steady 4.0-grade point average and has been recognized numerous times for academic excellence, Desjardins said. Her favorite class was TV and Media and she plans to pursue a career in this field. Murphy is the youngest of four and loves to travel.

Widgen was awarded the Linda Michalczyk Scholarship, as a student pursuing a degree at a two-year technical college, studying health and science technology while hoping to pursue a career as a radiologist technician. Desjardins said her hobbies include paddleboarding, kayaking, baking, and spending time with family and friends.
