Teen Skateboarder Struck By Vehicle In Salem

A teenage skateboarder was injured after being struck by a vehicle in Salem. A town resident was charged in the incident.

SALEM, NH — A teenage skateboarder was transported to the hospital Thursday after being struck be a vehicle in the area of Shadow Lake Road and Sylvan Drive. The accident occurred around 2:54 p.m., according to the Salem police logs. Steven Berry, 56, of Salem, was charged with driving under the influence in connection with the accident.

The teen was reported breathing but unconscious shortly after the accident, police logs indicate. The Fire Department transported the teen to Lawrence, Massachusetts, General Hospital. From there, a Med Flight helicopter was scheduled to transport the teen to another medical facility.

The roadway in the area was closed to traffic for some time after the accident. The truck that struck the skateboarder was towed, police logs indicate. Berry has been charged with impaired driving.

Police told the Eagle-Tribune that the skateboarder did not stop at the intersection while traveling down Shadow Lake Road, and Berry, who was driving a GMC pickup truck, struck the teen. The newspaper stated that the teen was 15 years old.
