Woburn Felon Arrested In Salem NH On Drug, Gun, Other Charges

SALEM, NH — A Massachusetts felon convicted of past theft charges is in more trouble with the law after being arrested in New Hampshire Wednesday on gun, drug, and other charges.

Around 6 p.m., officers were sent to the Rite Aid on South Broadway to investigate a stalking complaint by a man who said another man was following him. The man said he was checking into a hotel and claimed a man unknown to him, later identified as Nicholas Colby Jewett, 29, of Woburn, MA, "approached him and asked him personal questions," according to Deputy Chief Joel Dolan of the Salem Police Department. Jewett was accused of following the other man to the parking lot of the pharmacy when police arrived and attempted to pull over the vehicle Jewett was driving. Jewett, however, drove away, Dolan said.

On Route 28, a short distance later, Jewett stopped, and police questioned him. He was accused of giving police a fake name and license, according to police. After brief struggle, Dolan added, Jewett was taken into custody.

"Though he refused to cooperate during the booking process, Salem police were able to identify Jewett by his tattoos," Dolan said. "After a search warrant for the vehicle was granted, police found two handguns (one with a destroyed serial number) and numerous items related to identity theft, manufacturing fake IDs, fraudulent credit cards, and stolen property. The vehicle was also found to have a fake Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and determined to have been stolen from a dealership in Woburn, Mass. within the last week."

Jewett was charged with felony counts of armed career criminal, possession of prescription medication, and felon in possession of a dangerous weapon as well as two counts of disobeying an officer, license prohibitions, operating after suspension, and changing marks on a handgun.

Jewett was arraigned Thursday and had a bail hearing Friday.

According to court records, Jewett has an active case in Rockingham County on a felony theft charge after an incident in Plaistow from December 2018. The charge is a felony based on two prior theft convictions. According to posts on Patch, he has been arrested numerous times around the state on various charges.
