3 Sisters' Dream To Open Boutique Is Thriving In Basking Ridge

Get to know the Basking Ridge local and her 2 sisters who opened Soul Sisters in downtown Basking Ridge in 2017.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Basking Ridge local Julie Pascarella and her two sisters took a giant risk to follow their dreams and open Soul Sisters in town. Three years later that risk has paid off.

Pascarella, a marketing and event planner, and her sisters Lisa Plinio, an attorney, and Donna Arnold, a financial planner both from nearby Clinton, opened the lifestyle boutique in 2017 at 25 South Finley Ave.

Although the three come from very different professional backgrounds their relationship seems to flourish by working together.

"Honestly [working together] is the best part," Pascarella said. "We didn’t know if we would have necessarily gelled well since we all come at it from different angles. But we all have a similar taste, but not identical, so it gives us more options in the store."

Soul Sisters appeals to wider range of audience by offering unique and artisan goods and gifts with an emphasis on original design, high quality and value.

Their diverse offerings include a curated mix of hand crafted jewelry, home goods, apparel, accessories and small batch apothecary.

The sisters work together to go to trade shows, search social media or even ask their teenage daughters to find unique items to sell.

"We are all very close and our kids are very close," Pascarella said. "We spend a lot of time together - even outside of the business. The business is just a natural progression."

Soul Sisters also offers a personal shopping experience to help shoppers find the perfect piece that can "enhance day-to-day living." They also can help men or children who come in looking to purchase a gift for a woman in their life.

The boutique will be entering their fourth year in business in April and they have no intentions of leaving Basking Ridge.

"We are here because we love being in the community," Pascarella said. "We enjoy it and love working together and the greatest thing is being able to see locals come in."

Additionally, Pascarella explained how empowering it is to have three women run the business to serve as an example for their daughters.

"I love the idea that our kids can see us working," Pacarella said. "We didn’t have the experience but we had a vision. You don't let fear get in the way of your dreams."
