Basking Ridge Man Accused of Having, Sharing Child Porn Images

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A Basking Ridge man was indicted Wednesday by a federal jury for allegedly having and sharing hundreds of images of child sexual abuse, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

John Schulenburg, 65, is charged with one count of distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. He will be arraigned at a later date.

Schulenberg was initially arrested on Nov. 6, 2019, following an undercover investigation. He was released on $100,000 bond.

In July 2019, an undercover officer connected with Schulenburg on the internet, where he reportedly shared multiple files of images featuring child sexual abuse from an internet address traced to his home, according to documents filed in this case and statements made in court.

On Nov. 6, 2019, police took a computer from Schulenburg's home that had hundreds of images and videos of child pornography, including images of prepubescent children being sexually abused, Carpenito said.

Schulenberg faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison or a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for the count of distribution of child pornography. He also faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison or a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for the count of possession of child pornography.
