Basking Ridge Resident Makes It To Hollywood On American Idol

WATCH: Katy Perry and Luke Bryan liked what they heard from Samantha Sharpe, and Lionel Richie said she has 'master' control of her voice.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Samantha Sharpe is going to Hollywood. The Basking Ridge resident's audition aired Sunday on American Idol, and the trio of superstar judges approved Sharpe for the next round.

Sharpe leads her family perform as the Sharpe Family Singers. The family has already amassed a fan base with 5.5 million TikTok followers and more than 350K following on Instagram.

Sharpe arrived with her family before judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan. First the Sharpe Family Singers wowed the judges with their performance of "Into the Unknown," from Frozen 2. Then Sharpe gave her solo rendition of "Titanium" by David Guetta featuring Sia.

Richie told Sharpe she has "master" control of her voice before his fellow judges stood up and said, "You're going to Hollywood." The show's catchphrase indicates she will advance past her audition.

Her repertoire includes roles in productions of Les Miserables, All Shook Up, Rent, Secret Garden, Charlie Brown, The Wedding Singer, and Evita. Sharpe has also recorded multiple solo singles on a Sesame Street album and on the cast album of Broadway's A Tale of Two Cities.

She has performed on stage with stars such as Tony Bennett and Queen Latifah.
