BASKING RIDGE, NJ — It's a tradition that has gone on for the past 28 years in Basking Ridge. This year out of respect for the death of its founder, the annual Labor Day Bike Races will not be held.

Liberty Cycle owner and founder of the town's annual bike race Greg Cordasco, 56, tragically died on April 24 of Glioblastoma, the same type of brain cancer that Sen. John McCain died of recently. (See Related: Beloved Basking Ridge Bike Shop Owner Dies At 56)

Bernards Township and Liberty Cycle have always collaborated to put the race together with the local bike shop hosting the adult portion of the Olde Mill Inn Tour of Basking Ridge. This year they decided not to host it considering the tragic news.

"The Township will follow suit and not hold the children’s portion of the races both out of respect for the Cordasco family, and because the event is largely dependent on the adult tour for logistical planning and participation. Our thoughts and well wishes are with the Cordasco family and we hope to resume the event in 2020," Bernards Township posted on its website.
