BASKING RIDGE, NJ—The Bernards Township Police Department added new personnel on Tuesday, as Thomas Dill was appointed to the position of Patrol Officer during the township committee meeting.

"As a result of our recruitment and interviewing process, Tom stood out amongst a pool of exceptional candidates," said Bernards Township Police Chief Mike Shimsky. "We look forward to him becoming part of our family here in Bernards Township."

Dill, 26, earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Marist College, New York, where he was a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma Criminal Justice Honor Society. He graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy in 2015 and served as a Class II Officer in the Borough of Belmar and in Old Bridge Township.

Dill was hired by the Manchester Police Department in 2016, where he was presented with an award the following year for helping to resuscitate a man who collapsed with no pulse. The new officer, who will be formally sworn in on August 31, will replace officer Gina Loschiavo, who retired last month.
