Bernards Police Awarded $6K To Crack Down On Drunk Driving

Bernards Township Police will most likely set up extra enforcement on July 4th using the grant money.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Bernards Township Police was awarded just over $6,000 to help crackdown on drunk driving.

The money was awarded by the NJ Department of Highway Safety's NJ Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund Grant.

The money is awarded annually based on statistical DWI arrest data and may be used for enforcement-related activities, said Bernards Township Police Chief Michael Shimsky.

"Generally, we look to step up enforcement on the days of the year that there are statistically higher rates of fatalities attributed to impaired driving (New Years, Independence Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, etc.). We do not have concrete plans yet but I would assume we will have targeted patrols on July 4," said Shimsky.
