Bernards Reorganization Still on Thursday, But Reception Moved

First Bernards Township annual reorganization still on for 7 p.m. at municipal building at 1 Collyer Lane.

Despite predicted snow, the first meeting of 2014 for the Bernards Township Committee, at which a new mayor and Township Committee member are due to be sworn in, remains scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the town hall at 1 Collyer Lane in Basking Ridge.

The meeting also will be the first held again in a refurbished main meeting and courtroom in the historic building.

Reception location moved to town hall

However, a New Year's reception that will be held immediately following the meeting, previously scheduled to be hosted as usual at the Liberty Corner firehouse, has now been relocated to be municipal building to reduce driving distance for attendees, said Township Clerk Denise Szabo.

Township Committeeman John Carpenter, who served as deputy mayor for 2013, is expected to be selected by committee members to serve as this year's township mayor. Carpenter previously had been set as mayor.

A new deputy mayor also is due to be selected at the meeting.

The annual reorganization meeting also includes appointments to various volunteer boards, committees and commissions. An agenda for the meeting is online.
