Our Engineering Department is busy this summer season with the 2021 Capital Infrastructure Program. This year the Engineering Department has paved 19 streets and is out to bid to resurface 30 additional streets. Reconstruction projects and State Aid projects are also underway. The Bernards Township Sewerage Authority has completed video inspection of 19 miles of sewer mains and is continuing rehabilitation projects.
Pleasant Valley Pool is now open for the season and memberships are available! The Baby Pool & Splash area are open, and the Water Play Area will be opening shortly. Our PVP Piranhas Swim Team has begun their season and we have limited availability remaining for swim lesson sessions starting in July.
The Coakley-Russo Memorial Golf Course hosted the Mayors Cup Tournament on June 12. More tournaments will be scheduled throughout the season. Course conditions are excellent, and memberships are available! The NJ Golf Foundation is working towards reopening the range in late July.
Many of our recreation programs for the summer are sold out! Limited space remains available in our Summer Basketball Clinics, Chess and Steamworks Workshops. Summer Special Events begin July 6th with our first concert in the park, Hoi Polloi, at 7PM at the Pleasant Valley Park Amphitheater.

As you may be aware, we have been hosting monthly “Meet the Mayor Series” as a forum to provide monthly informational and Q&A discussions. The month of May was “Asian Pacific American Heritage Month” and the forum included guest speakers from Ridge High School Chinese Culture Club and the Bernards Township Chamber of Commerce Interns Club. The month of June was “Safety Month” and the forum included guest speakers from the Bernards Township Police Department and the Bernards Township Fire Prevention Bureau providing safety precautions we should all consider. The month of July will be dedicated to “History” and Brooks Betz our Township Historian will be discussing the history of Independence Day and how Bernards Township played a part. This Meet the Mayor forum will be held on July 12, 2021, at 7:00 pm at the Kennedy Martin Steele Farmstead on King George Road.
Also, as Covid restrictions are continuing to be rolled back the “Mayor’s Fall Festival” is taking shape for October 2021. Stay tuned for further details as we get closer to the Fall season.
Finally, I want to wish all our residents a happy and healthy summer season. Many of our activities are now available to the public after a long suspension due to Covid. Please get out there and enjoy.
Have a great Fourth of July weekend.
Sincerely,
Janice M. Fields
Mayor
Bernards Township
