Driver Trapped Down I-287 Embankment Rescued In Basking Ridge

Basking Ridge Fire and Rescue units found a passenger vehicle with one person inside 200-feet down the embankment at exit 26A.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A driver who was trapped after their car got stuck down an embankment off I-287 was rescued in Basking Ridge on Thursday.

Just before 9 a.m. Basking Ridge Fire and Rescue units went to the crash at exit 26A of Interstate 287 southbound, said Basking Ridge Assistant Fire Chief John Sabel.

Firefighters found a passenger vehicle with one person inside 200-feet down the embankment at the exit, Sabel said.

The driver was uninjured and rescued with the help of the New Jersey State Police and a private tow operator, Sabel said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the NJSP.
