
The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

Animals in Winter
Friday, December 20 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will join a Naturalist to talk about
animals and how they survive the winter cold. The hour will
include games, crafts , and stories.
Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child.

Storytime in the Trees – FREE PROGRAM
Saturday, December 21 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
Family and friends of all ages are invited to join a Naturalist amid the
lights of the Festival of Trees for seasonal stories of mystery
adventure, and good will.
The program is free and registration is not required.

Birding Identification Workshops – Ducks
Saturday, December 21 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.
Adults will enjoy an opportunity to begin, refine, or reinforce birding
skills in this year-long series of workshops focused on tips and
tricks to identify various bird species. This program will address
ducks and the wide array that can be found in New Jersey in the
winter.

Snowflake Party! – FREE PROGRAM
Sunday, December 22 from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
Family and friends will prepare for the inevitable snow by making giant
snowflakes for display at the EEC and some to take home. Come
any time and spend as much time as you desire.
The program is free and there is no need to register.
“The Great Swamp Experience,” on the lower level at the EEC, features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission Is free.
Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
