Fire Chief Urges Residents to Shovel Hydrants, Clearly Display House Numbers
The Liberty Corner Fire Chief urges residents to shovel hydrants and make sure emergency responders can find your house.

With today’s blizzard just hours away, the Liberty Corner Fire Company Chief is reminding local residents to save lives by shoveling out fire hydrants, and make sure house numbers are clearly displayed.
These practices ensure that valuable time is not wasted, and that emergency responders can reach homes quickly and efficiently.
Liberty Corner Fire Company Chief Peter Aprahamian urges residents to shovel out the fire hydrant closed to your home after each snowstorm.

“As we all know, during an emergency every second counts,” Fire Chief Aprahamian stated. “If firefighters have to first locate and then shovel out fire hydrants, precious time is wasted and our ability to quickly establish a water supply is greatly reduced.”
In addition, the Fire Chief stated that house numbers should be clearly visible, noting that many house numbers become obstructed due to high snow banks piled around mailboxes, while house numbers placed close to the ground are often completely covered with snow.

“Again, a clearly visible house number saves our first responders precious time in locating your home in the event of an emergency, Chief Aprahamian said. “Please help your local volunteers better serve you by shoveling out your nearby fire hydrants and making sure your house number is clearly visible.”
By Monday night, Basking Ridge could see 8 inches of new snow accumulation, with an additional three to five inches falling on Tuesday. According to the NWS, much of the state will see blizzard conditions and one to two feet of snow.
