Flash Flood Watch, Heat Advisory Issued For Somerset County

The remnants of what was Tropical Cyclone Barry are expected to pass through the area bringing potentially heavy showers and thunderstorms.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A flash flood watch and heat advisory have been issued for Somerset County by the National Weather Service.

The flash flood watch is in effect from 2 p.m. through late Wednesday night.

The remnants of what was Tropical Cyclone Barry are expected to pass through the region later today bringing potentially heavy showers and thunderstorms, according to the NWS.

Too much runoff water could cause flooding in urban and poor drainage areas. Some fast-responding small streams may also flood.

A total of one to two inches of rain is expected to fall in the area.

A heat advisory was also issued through Sunday with the heat index going up to 105 due to temperatures in the upper 90s, and dewpoints in the lower 70s.

As a result of the predicted thunderstorms, Warren and Basking Ridge have both postponed their outdoor concert and movie night.
