Flash Flood Watch Issued For Somerset County Wednesday
Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Wednesday afternoon and evening.
SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A flash flood watch has been issued for Somerset County on Wednesday by the National Weather Service.
The watch is in effect from 2 through 10 p.m. on Aug. 7 as showers and strong thunderstorms develop in the area.
Heavy rain is expected with 1 to 2 inches falling and 3 to 4 inches possible locally. The heavy rain in short bursts could cause flash flooding as a result, according to the NWS.

Flooding risks are highest in urbanized and low-lying areas with small creeks and streams expected to rise rapidly as well.
Along with flooding risks some storms could produce damaging wind gusts of up to 70-mph that could lead to power outages.

Here is a look at this week's forecast:
Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. High near 86. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 11 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 68. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Thursday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Light west wind. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 85. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph.
Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61.
