Girls Lacrosse: Ridge Edges Hillsborough in Overtime, 10-9

Team Plays in Recognition of Honorary Captain, Katie King

Bernards Township – The Ridge girls' lacrosse team edged Hillsborough in overtime, 10-9, Thursday May 13th. It was an exciting win for the Red Devils and a special evening for all as the team recognized honorary captain for the day, Katie King. King participated in the opening coin toss and jogged out with the starting line-up, inspiring the athletes who were preparing to play in honor of her relentless strength, courage and love of sport throughout her over 3 ½ year battle with cancer.

With King on the sidelines cheering them on, Ridge did not get discouraged when Hillsborough pulled ahead 4-2 during the first ten minutes of the match. Instead, the Red Devils responded with five unanswered goals to finish the first half ahead of the Raiders, 7-4.

Ridge held on to the lead throughout the 2nd half until Hillsborough tied the game with less than a minute left on the clock. As the contest went into overtime, Jennifer Prince won the opening draw allowing Ridge to control the ball until Julie Narleski found Nicole Sileo cutting toward the net; Sileo scored to secure the win.

After the game, both the Red Devils and the Raiders joined Katie and the King family for ice cream provided by 5 Brothers Treats, who donated a percentage of the proceeds to the Katie King Foundation to help raise funds for pediatric cancer research.
