Hour-By-Hour: Arctic Winds Bring Snow, Biggest Chill In 11 Years to Basking Ridge
Temperatures plummet with wind chills falling to 10 below. Here's how the storm will affect Basking Ridge today and through the weekend.

Basking Ridge residents will experience the worst cold in 11 years this weekend, as an “impactful storm” blows snow and strong wind gusts that could cause power outages across the state.
Temperatures will drop below zero around the state with wind chill values dropping to 10 below on Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning. The National Weather Service has also issued a “Hazardous Weather Outlook,” predicting a harsh arctic outbreak for the holiday weekend.

Basking Ridge will see about half an inch of snow Thursday afternoon, with highs near 38 degrees and wind gusts as high as 26 miles-per-hour, according to the NWS. Snow showers will continue to fall in the township, with another half-inch falling Thursday night.

- 2 p.m.: 36 degrees, snow
- 3 p.m.: 35 degrees, snow
- 4 p.m.: 33 degrees, snow
- 5 p.m.: 34 degrees, snow
- 6 p.m.: 32 degrees, snow
- 7 p.m.: 28 degrees, snow
- 8 p.m.: 27 degrees, snow
- 9 p.m.: 22 degrees with wind chill at 6 degrees
- 10 p.m.: 20 degrees, wind chill at 3 degrees
- 11 p.m.: 19 degrees, wind chill at 2 degrees
- 12 a.m. Friday: 18 degrees, wind chill at 0 degrees
- 1 a.m.: 17 degrees, wind chill at 1 below zero
- 2 a.m.: 16 degrees, wind chill at 2 below zero
The cold will set in on Friday with wind chill values plummeting to 10 below zero, despite mostly sunny skies during the day. Saturday will bring more snow to Basking Ridge with snow showers likely before midnight with new snow accumulation totaling around one inch.
The National Weather Service advises residents to ensure preparations are made to have sufficient fuel to heat homes and businesses, and to protect pipes from freezing.
