BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Meet Libby! She has been chosen as Basking Ridge Patch's Pet Of The Week. (For a limited time Pet of the Week will run twice a week to bring some joy during the coronavirus pandemic)

"Libby turned 4 in June. She is an 11 pound red toy poodle (though the red gets lighter over the years) and she is the first dog I have ever had because I'm allergic. But my youngest was relentless and we finally broke down and it was the best decision ever. We can't imagine our life without her! We can't wait to see her every morning and I admit that I put her to sleep every night like she is my forever baby. She is spoiled rotten almost like she is human!.Mommy's fault and I take full credit and blame.

She loves to cuddle and sleep in sunny spots around the house. She barks at anything that moves in the backyard and the doorbell (even the doorbell from the TV) but that's the only time she barks. She loves absolutely everyone especially if you scratch under her chin. We bell trained her and it is so cute how she goes to the front door and just hits it with her paw and stands there waiting. She is very well behaved and obedient and strangely never mischievous. Everyone at the vet loves her and looks forward to her visits as she runs in the door to see her friends and get rubs and love. We actually trained her with hugs and rubs and kisses and not treats. Her tiny stump of a tail wags so fast when she's excited that it looks like she might take flight like a helicopter.

She adores her two sisters 18 and 12 and is a daddy's girl too. And Daddy doesn't mind taking her everywhere even when we put all her pretty sweaters and shirts on. She does have this strange but adorable habit of needing something in her mouth in order to greet you. Whether it be her favorite bunny or the name tag on her collar, she gets those first and then comes running back to love you and greet you. My mother has been allergic to dogs her whole life and not keen on them but for some odd reason Libby is the only dog she isn't allergic to in more than 70 years and she instantly fell in love with her. She keeps pictures in her purse of her grand pup just like her grand kids.

Another funny daily ritual is her morning yoga routine. She gets her rubs and love and grabs a toy in her mouth and runs to the family room. She begins with downward dog and then slithers like a snake with all legs straight out across the room. She then rubs her face on the carpet in a full circle and then lays on her back kicking all legs up in the air. Hilarious everyday. Libby is our love, our laughter and a forever part of our life. Who can have a bad day when you can look at that adorable face and cuddle?!"
