Local Students Are Semifinalists For National Merit Scholarships

Students at Ridge High School and The Pingry School were named semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarships this week.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ—A total of 31 students from Ridge High School and The Pingry School were named semifinalists for the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship on Wednesday.

The 16 Ridge and 15 Pingry students (see full list below) were selected from an applicant pool of 1.5 million at more than 21,000 high schools. They were chosen based on their performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

The local students were some of the approximately 16,000 semifinalists nationwide. To become one of the 15,000 expected finalists, students must submit a detailed application, including academic records, extracurricular activities, leadership abilities, employment history, and honors or awards received, and a letter of recommendation.

The students will compete for the 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million, scheduled to be awarded next spring.
