Marcos Garro to Receive $21,000 Scholarship
Largest Ridge Alumni Memorial Scholarship in Group's 15 year history

Ridge High senior Marcos Garro will receive the 2021 Ridge Alumni Memorial Scholarship (RidgeAMS), a $21,000 award that recognizes character and determination.
“Marcos is a remarkable story of resilience and determination,” according to Jane Cullinan, a founding Ridge AMS Trustee. Born in the U.S., Marcos moved to Paraguay as an infant, returning to this country to begin his junior year at RHS at the age of 16. Adapting to a new environment, education system and language required remarkable tenacity and effort.
The Ridge AMS grant is unusual in recognizing applicants’ character, determination, and non-traditional achievements, rather than grades or test scores. Winners may use the funds for any personal growth opportunity. The generosity of donors allowed Ridge AMS to raise the 2021 award to the highest level in its 15 year history.

At RHS’s annual Awards Night on May 26, Marcos will receive the $21,000 check. In recent years, the Ridge Alumni Memorial Scholarship has been the largest grant presented at the RHS Awards Night, other than scholarships to specific colleges or universities.
