Oak Street Fifth Graders Write Story Performed In New York
Class assignment leads to play being staged.

It's the dream of many adult writers to have their work highlighted in the Big Apple, but three fifth grade authors at the Oak Street Elementary School in Basking Ridge already have realized the accomplishment of seeing their story performed in Manhattan
The Story Pirates of New York City (storypirates.org) performed a story written by Oak Street School fifth graders last Saturday at the Arthur Seleen Theatre in New York City.
The story, entitled "The Adventures of Chuck," was written by Ethan DePaolis, Alex Fernandez, and Ethan Lipset. The Story Pirates are a non-profit arts education program which had selected the boys' story during a November visit to the Oak Street School.
The students wrote the story as an assignment in Mrs. Kim Madden's class, not knowing it would be considered for staging as a performance.
