Rally In Basking Ridge To Condemn Anti-Asian Violence

The Basking Ridge Chinese American Community invites the public to attend Saturday's rally and vigil.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The wave of solidarity to stand against anti-Asian hate will hit home. The Basking Ridge Chinese American Community invited the public to a rally and vigil to condemn violence around the nation against Asian Americans.

The event takes place from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the American flagpole in downtown Basking Ridge. Organizers have also created a GoFundMe to help initiatives that promote inclusion, unity, equity and empowerment.

Everyone at the event is asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Organizers also encourage people to visit and shop at businesses in the downtown area.

The following people are expected to give brief speeches at the event:

  • Bernards Township Mayor Janice Fields
  • Somerset County Deputy Commissioner Sara Sooy
  • Bernards Township Committeeperson Joan M. Bannon, liaison of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee
  • Somerset County Sheriff Darrin Russo
  • Al LiCata, president of the Bernards Township Regional Chamber of Commerce
  • Wendy Wu, founder of youth organization IMPACT and president of the New Jersey Music Teachers Association
  • The Alliance of Youth Leaders in the United States
  • Basking Ridge Officers Juliet Bu, Stephanie Lu and Sarah Ouyang
  • Lawrence Han, Ridge Chinese Culture Club president and other officers
  • Ridge High School students Serena Li, Samhita Tatavarty, Josh Conklin and Gautam Namjoshi
