
Registration for Summer Horse Camps at the Somerset County Park Commission Lord Stirling Stable, 256 South Maple Avenue in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, is now in progress. The Summer Camps offer an opportunity for junior riders age 9 years and older to gain hands-on experience and to learn in a safe and friendly environment. The goals is for riders to have fun while gaining skill, knowledge, and confidence around horses.
The hands-on, weekly five-day camps focus on riding and horse care each week. Programs will run on Mondays from 8:15 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. and Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.
A typical camp day includes a riding lesson, a fun ride or trail ride, grooming, and hands-on activities including horse costume classes, pony relay races, parts of the horse contests, painting oon live horses, silly and serious impromptu horse show classes, bareback riding, and gymkhana games.

Camp weeks are scheduled for June 22 to June 26; June 29 to July 2 (4-day Trails Week – special program hours from 8:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.); July 6 to July 10; July 13 to July 17 (Musical Performance Week); July 20 to July 24; July 27 to July 31; August 3 to August 7; August 10 to August 14; and August 17 to August 21.
Registration will be available up to the Friday before the opening day of each Camp, as space permits. See the web site at www.somersetcountyparks.org on programs for ages riders age 6 to 8 years. Fee for weekly sessions is $300 for Somerset County residents and $450 for non-residents. A discounted rate for a second family member or second week of camp is $250 for residents and $387.50 for non-residents.
