BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Ridge High School Green Team wants to make a difference around town, but they'll need your help first. The team launched an online, reusable bag fundraiser.

Students created the fundraiser in conjunction with ChicoBag, a company that develops compact, reusable bags, packs and totes. Funds will help the Green Team purchase recycling bins for plastic-bag drop-offs around town, according to Co-Presidents Lauren Feldman and Vidhi Jha.

To access the fundraiser, visit Shop.Profit-Raisers.com and use code 32589. All order forms are due by Feb. 28.

ChicoBag found Andy Keller took a trip to a local landfill in 2004 and felt "horrified" by the number of single-use bags, according to the company's website. So Keller decided to buy a secondhand sewing machine and created what ultimately became the first ChicoBag brand reusable bag.

New Jersey passed in November a law that will prohibit businesses from handing out single-use plastic bags, polystyrene food containers, plastic straws and paper bags — arguably the nation's strictest single-use plastic ban. The new rules will become effective May 2022.
