Rt. 206 Reopened, 1K Still Without Power In Somerset County

3 Basking Ridge schools closed early as a result of high wind on Monday.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Wind gusts of up to 60 mph slammed the area hard causing downed trees and utility poles, and power outages across Somerset County Monday including at three local schools.

About 7,000 residents were without power at one point on Monday, according to JCP&L and PSE&G.

Ridge High School, William Annin Middle School and Cedar Hill Elementary School in Basking Ridge were among those without power. Early dismissals were called for the schools.

A high wind warning was in effect for the county until 6 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service reported.

In Montgomery, County Route 605 is closed between Blue Spring Rd and Princeton Township due to a tree and wires down.

In Far Hills, avoid Liberty Corner Road between Layton and Douglas roads due to a downed tree. Also avoid Lake Road between Campbell to Pennbrook.

UPDATE: In Hillsborough, Route 206 between Oxford Place and Homestead Road has since reopened.

In Bedminster a downed tree with wires is being reported on Holland Road between Spook Hollow Road and Old Dutch Road West.

Another downed tree is being reported in Warren on Mt. Horeb Road and Washington Valley Road. Liberty Corner Road, south of Mount Horeb Road in Warren is also closed due to a downed tree on power lines. Drivers are asked to plan an alternate route. King George Road by Mason Hill Road is also closed for utility repairs.

UPDATE: In Watchung, Bonnie Burn Road in Watchung has reopened as of 3 p.m. Parlin Lane has since reopened as of 10:07 a.m. following a closure for a large tree and wires down.

JCP&L is reporting the following outages as of 7:30 p.m. Restoration time is estimated by 9 p.m.:

  • Franklin - 29
  • Hillsborough - Fewer than 5
  • Manville - Fewer than 5
  • Montgomery - 11
  • Raritan - Fewer than 5
  • Rocky Hill - Fewer than 5
  • Somerville - Fewer than 5
  • South Bound Brook - 30
  • Warren - Fewer than 5
  • Watchung - 15
