Somerset County YMCA Gymnastics Team Wins Big At 1st Competition

Somerset County YMCA's gymnastics team beat Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA and South Mountain YMCA at their first competition of the season.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Somerset County YMCA’s gymnastics team – known as Somerset Valley Gymnastics – beat Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA and South Mountain YMCA, taking home a 107 win at their first competition of the season. The other scores were Fanwood Scotch Plains 102 and South Mountain 105.

Fourteen gymnasts ages 9 to 15 from Somerset Valley YMCA competed against the other New Jersey teams at Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA on Jan. 26. This was the first competition ever for many of the girls, who showed off their newly learned skills to audience members.

"It was an exhilarating day for all of our talented athletes who spent many hours practicing for this kick-off competition,"said Somerset County YMCA Gymnastics Coordinator and Coach Rachel Cover. "The energy was felt in every tumble, cartwheel and roll. We're very proud to represent Somerset County YMCA and look forward to an exciting 2019 gymnastics season."

The gymnastics team at Somerset County YMCA has 73 gymnasts who practice at Somerville YMCA. The team is led by certified professional gymnastics coaches and compete year-round in YMCA and USA-sanctioned meets.
