Vine Restaurant Proposed To Be Demolished, Rebuilt

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Out with the old and in with the new. Owners of The Vine in Basking Ridge are looking to demolish the existing restaurant and replace it with a new modern and efficient building.

The applicant, Baston 95, LLC, said they had originally intended to renovate the existing restaurant at 95 Morristown Road (Route 202) in Basking Ridge but because of the age of the building they have decided to demolish it.

The proposed new building will be increased from 6,352 square feet to 7,511 square feet (which include the first and second floors. This is an increase of 1,159 square feet. The same number of parking spaces, 83, will remain along with the same number of seats (165 for indoor and 50 for outdoor).

The application is requesting a number of variances from the Bernards Township Zoning Board including for parking where 151 spots would be required, reducing the setback to neighboring homes from 50 feet to 30.5 feet.

The building had been used as a restaurant since the 1930s and the proposed new building would include a new HVAC system and increase handicapped accessibility.

The application was proposed at the June 17 meeting and will continue to Sept. 16 where residents can question experts. The meeting is expected to continue to Oct. 6 where residents will be able to comment on the project as a whole.
