It's been a tough year, but these businesses stood out to readers as favorite places to eat, shop and support.

BERKELEY, NJ — Fantastic meals, helpful staff and dedication during the pandemic are among the reasons why local Patch readers love these spots nominated as Local Businesses of the Year.

“Warm family atmosphere, consistently great food,” said customer Charissa Palazzo.

“Quality of work and repairs. The staff was very polite and efficient,” said customer James Stegemann.

L Gourmet

“Laurie is the incredibly talented, passionate and hardworking owner of L Gourmet in Beachwood with a beautiful menu of freshly prepared selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My mom and I have been customers for a few years and order from L Gourmet regularly. During this pandemic, we probably order takeout several times a week...The staff is professional, courteous and friendly and the ambiance inside is really cozy and homey,” said customer Nan Owen.

Sand Castle Diner

“Pillar of our community, treats their customers like friends, good food, great service, the staff are like family. Just a place you would stay loyal to,” said customer Dorathy Perez.
