Barnegat Branch Trail In Berkeley To Close For Trestle Repairs

The trail will be closed from Serpentine Drive in Berkeley to William Hebrew Park in Lacey. The Dudley Park entrance will also be closed.

BERKELEY, NJ — The Barnegat Branch Rail Trail trestle will be closed for repairs beginning Tuesday.

During the construction, the trail will be closed from Serpentine Drive in Berkeley to William Hebrew Park in Lacey. Trail access through Dudley Park will also be closed.

The Ocean County Bridge Department is replacing the bulkhead on the north side of the trestle with a retaining wall to stabilize the bank and prevent erosion.

The project is estimated to take about one week to complete, according to Mike Mangum, director of Ocean County Parks and Recreation.

"If they run into problems it's gonna be longer than we think, but I'm thinking a week at most," Mangum told Patch on Thursday.
