Blessing of the Fleet Commemoration Cancelled

Weather Causes Popular Picnic to Be Cancelled

BAYVILLE -- The Annual Blessing of the Fleet and Memorial Day Commemoration is cancelled for this year due to the weather, event organizers announced early Sunday.

The popular "unofficial" kickoff to the summer season has been a staple of the community for the past 23 years. Following the boat parade, a picnic is traditionally held at the Amherst Beach locale and is sponsored by the Berkeley Shores Homeowners' Civic Association.

All events associated with the event are cancelled.

"Unfortunately, due to the weather we have to cancel everything,'' said BSHCA President Keith Ruscitti. "The association would like to thank everyone who has volunteered to participate and helped to prepare. Hopefully next year we will have better weather.''
