Central Regional Schools Going Remote 2 Days Due To COVID Cases

BERKELEY, NJ — Central Regional schools will go fully remote Thursday and Friday because of an increase in coronavirus cases, officials announced Wednesday. In-person schooling will resume Monday with A-L students.

It wasn't immediately clear how many cases the district had. Superintendent Dr. Triantafillos Parlapanides announced Tuesday that someone in the district tested positive for COVID-19.

"It has been confirmed that the individual did not expose any students or staff based on the information provided during the contact tracing process in coordination with the Ocean County Health Department," he said of the case reported Tuesday.

But Parlapanides announced an "increase" in district cases Wednesday, prompting the temporary closure.

Central Regional schools began the school year with a hybrid schedule. The Ocean County Health Department has reported 1,105 cases and 106 coronavirus deaths in Berkeley since the pandemic began.
