Exorbitant Property Tax Increases in Holiday City

Many seniors received an unexpected tax hike in their property taxes in the Holiday City Communities.

Many senior citizens who live in the Holiday City Communities have been hit hard with exorbitant property tax increases. Some have seen their property tax amounts doubled! If a home was purchased and renovated in 2017 and 2018, those seniors received an added and omitted tax bill. Some residents' added and omitted tax bills are anywhere between $1,500-$5,000. The township expects those affected residents to pay their added and omitted tax amounts by November. Almost everyone in these communities just live on social security without any other additional benefits. This is truly a burden. It seems that this was a "spot assessment" as not everyone was affected from prior years who have done renovations. The fair thing would have been to reassess all the homes in the communities and have a fair and manageable increase for all. Concerned seniors have contacted Mayor Amato and Councilwoman Noonan, not only to bring it to their attention, but also asking for help to reduce these increases. There is a Mayor and Council Meeting on Monday, October 22 at 6pm and seniors from the Holiday City Communities will be there to voice their grievances.
