Grease Fire Leaves Berkeley Apartment Uninhabitable

A resident has been displaced after a grease fire erupted in the kitchen of a Berkeley Gardens Apartment on Tuesday, police said.

BERKELEY, NJ — A resident has been displaced after a grease fire erupted in the kitchen of a Berkeley Gardens Apartment on Tuesday, police said.

The fire was reported around 11 a.m. in building B of the apartment complex located on Frederick Drive.

When police arrived, the resident of the apartment had extinguished the fire. Heavy smoke still lingered in part of the building, police said.

Officers evacuated nearby residents and checked for medical issues.

The resident’s apartment was deemed uninhabitable by the Berkeley Township building inspector. The fire devastated the kitchen and smoke caused damage throughout the apartment, police said.

Officers worked with the local Red Cross organization to find the displaced resident a temporary place to stay.

The Berkeley Township Fire Official, the Bayville Fire Department, Bayville EMS and the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office assisted at the scene.
