Hello Fall: Today Is The Last Day Of Guarded Beaches

Only Ship Bottom and Harvey Cedars will guarded today

LONG BEACH ISLAND, NJ - This is it. If you want to swim in the ocean, today's your last chance to take advantage of the few beaches that are still guarded.

Ship Bottom beaches will have guards at the Middlesex Avenue beach and possibly the 80th Street beach.

That's it until Memorial Day 2019.

There's a moderate risk of rip currents today. Check with local beach patrols about any problem areas. Never, ever, swim on an unguarded beach and never swim alone or at night. The National Weather Service advises swimmers to always have a flotation device with them.

The ocean water temperature today is 72 degrees. Waves will be from 2 to 3 feet, with easterly swells of 2 feet.

Skies today will be sunny, with highs only in lower 70s. Winds will be from the northeast winds around 10 miles per hour, becoming southeast in the afternoon. There is no lightning threat.

Here are the few beaches on LBI that are still guarded through today:

Ship Bottom will have daily coverage at the 7th, 15th and 20th streets through Sept. 30.

Harvey Cedars The Middlesex Avenue beach will be guarded through Sunday, Sept. 30. If the weather holds up, the 80th Street beach may be guarded as well.

Low tide at Barnegat Inlet arrived at 5:41 a.m. High tide will roll in 11:56 a.m., followed by another low tide at 6:48 p.m.
