A Nice Summer Day Ahead For Ocean County Beaches

Sunny skies, low rip current risk, National Weather Service says

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - If you're lucky enough to have the day off, take advantage of the beautiful (finally) summer weather at Ocean County beaches.

Skies will be sunny. Temperatures will be cool, with highs only in the mid 70s. Winds will be from the north at 10 to 15 miles per hour. There is no lightning threat, the National Weather Service says.

The rip current risk is low today. But remember that rips are always possible, especially near jetties and other structures. Be sure to check with your local beach patrol about any problem areas. Never, ever swim on an unguarded beach and never swim alone or at night. The NWS advises swimmers to always bring a flotation device with them in the water.

Waves will be about 3 feet high, with southerly swells of around 2 feet. The ocean water temperature is 75 degrees, although that may vary depending upon what beach you visit. The ultraviolet index is a 7, which the NWS considers high, so bring the sunscreen.

High tide at Barnegat Inlet arrived at 6:21 a.m. Low tide will roll in at 12:25 p.m. followed by another high tide at 6:37 p.m.
