Nor'easter In Berkeley: Here's What Happened

A major storm hit Berkeley. Here's what happened.

BERKELEY, NJ — A "major" nor'easter hit Berkeley on Wednesday afternoon, producing heavy rain and strong winds into early Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service labeled the "major" system a "nor'easter" since it was expected to produce strong, sustained damaging winds and precipitation over a 24-hour period on Wednesday.

The NWS placed Berkeley and the surrounding area under a coastal flood warning, which remains in effect until 3 p.m. Thursday.

The NWS expected a mix of rain, snow and sleet near Berkeley. Berkeley received about 2.6 inches of rain since the start of the nor'easter, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Here's the NWS's forecast for Berkeley as of 11:30 a.m. Thursday:

  • Thursday: A slight chance of snow before 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  • Thursday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22. North wind around 5 mph.
