Multi-Family Home Catches Fire In Beachwood: Officials
No residents were at home, and the pet cats were saved.
BEACHWOOD, NJ — A multi-family home caught fire Friday morning on Berkeley Avenue in Beachwood, officials said. No residents in the multi-family property were home, and the pet cats were rescued, according to the Beachwood Volunteer Fire Department.
The Beachwood and Pine Beach fire departments responded to the working kitchen fire at about 8:30 a.m. on the 1600 block of Berkeley Avenue. The fire spread through the first and second floors.
Officials contained and extinguished the fire within 45 minutes. The Manitou Park, Bayville and Pinewald fire departments also assisted. Beachwood and South Toms River EMS aided the rescued cats and a firefighter with a minor cut to his hand. Mayor Ronald Roma also went to the scene to help emergency personnel and victims.

The Beachwood police department and Ocean County Fire Marshall's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
Officials had closed off Berkeley Avenue between Pinewald Road and Cherry Street during the incident.
