Rough Seas Today, Along With A Moderate Rip Current Risk

Waves will be 4 to 5 feet, cloudy skies ahead for today, National Weather Service says

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ If you don't mind cloudy skies, head to the beach today.

But know that the surf will be very rough today, with waves of 4 to 5 feet, with light swells. There's also a moderate risk of rip currents, the National Weather Service says.

The high today will be in the upper 70s, which could match the ocean water temperature of 78 degrees. Ocean water temps may vary depending, on which beach you decide to go to. Winds will be from the east at 10 to 15 miles per hour. There is no lightning threat today.

If you're planning on swimming, be sure to check with your local beach patrol about problem areas. Some beach patrols may have certain restrictions today, due to the surf conditions. The Beach Haven Beach Patrol is not allowing ocean swimming today. Never, ever swim on an unguarded beach. Never swim alone or at night. the National Weather Service says swimmers should always have a flotation device with them in the water.

Please keep in mind that many beaches may not be guarded on weekdays or even weekends after Labor Day. Patch is putting together a list of which may be closed and which may be open.

The ultraviolet index today is a 7, which the NWS considers high, so don't forget the sunscreen. .

Low tide at Barnegat Inlet arrived at 6:08 a.m. High tide will roll in at 12:20 p.m., followed by another low tide at 6:59 p.m.
