A Sunny Day At Ocean Beaches, But Clouds, Showers Are On The Way

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ The good news is there's no heat advisory for today. It looks like the heat wave is slowly coming to an end.

The bad news is that the forecast for next few days will be that familiar "cloudy with a chance of showers." Not what you want heading into the Labor Day weekend. But by Sunday, things will start to improve.

The National Weather Service says skies today will start out mostly sunny, becoming mostly cloudy by 4 p.m. Highs today will be in the upper 80s. Winds will be from the west around 10 miles per hour, but will switch over to the north in the afternoon. There is no lightning threat.

The rip current risk for today is low. But rips can still occur anytime, anyplace, especially near jetties and other structures. Check with your local beach patrol about any problem areas. Never swim on an unguarded beach and never, ever swim alone or at night.

Waves will be around 3 feet, with southerly swells of 2 feet, dropping to around 2 feet in
the afternoon. The ocean water temperature is a balmy 78 degrees, but that could vary depending what beach you pick.

The ultraviolet index is a 7, which the NWS considers high. Don't forget your sunscreen

High tide at Barnegat Inlet will arrive at 10:48 a.m. Low tide will roll in at 5:11 p.m., followed by another high tide at 11:07 p.m.
